Arrowroot is derived from the root of a large, leafy plant native to South America and the Caribbean. Arrowroot powder is an odorless, gluten-free, low-protein, white coloured starch. It is easier to digest than wheat flour and helps to relieve acidity, indigestion, nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, and colic.
It is also mildly laxative. Arrowroot also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and may be applied as an ointment or poultice. Often used as an easy-to-digest form of nutrition for infants and people recovering from illness, arrowroot is also used in the kitchen as a thickening agent.
